Educational Information

Quality education is a priority in our community, a fact that is self evident by the level of growth in the school district.

Garden City now has 14 elementary schools, two private elementary schools, two fifth and sixth grade intermediate centers, two middle schools, a high school and a community college.

The high quality of the education program in Garden City is evident by the recent number of awards received by both educators and administration. These awards include a Kansas Teacher of the Year finalist, national recognition of the current Garden City High School principal, and Kansas Superintendent of the year.

USD 457 offers many unique programs and honors courses. Students may take up to five levels of Spanish, French and/or English as a second language classes. The district also offers advanced placement courses in U.S. History, Biology, Computer Science, English Language and composition, US. Government, Latin, Calculus AB, Psychology and Spanish. The Honors courses include English, Chemistry, Physics, History, Psychology, Computers and Math.

Extra-curricular programs include Environmental club, Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD), D.A.R.E., Key Club, Color Guard and many more.

The number of academic inter-school competitions has grown to include Odyssey of the Mind, Reading Incentives, Science Fairs, Future Problem Solving, Quiz Bowl, Spelling Bees and History Day.

The district also offers a complete sports program including football, basketball, track, cross country, golf, soccer, baseball, dance team and more.

Garden City Community college provides continuing education for students of all ages. They offer day, evening and weekend classes in everything from archeology to zoology. Two year degree programs in many areas, as well as four year college and university connections are available offering students bachelor and master degree programs.
